“What Josiah Saw” is an odd duck, a movie that jumps genres but maintains a throughline of unsettling intensity before tying them all back together

“The soul of this land is captured in Robert Pycior’s strident, string-heavy score, which intermittently becomes overwhelming. In Eli’s chapter it becomes something more bluesy, even playful when tempered by other traditions. In Mary’s it is more modest, subdued, better suited to the dinner parties she can’t quite endure. Back on the farm it swells, unleashed. It is too much; everything is too much, and that’s entirely appropriate.”

“What’s immediately noticeable about What Josiah Saw is Carlos Ritter’s picturesque cinematography. Then, it’s met in contrast by Robert Pycior’s haunting score, seemingly suggesting that despite the beauty of this land, there is evil buried deep beneath its soil...”

"The more traditional horror beats for What Josiah Saw are expressed via Robert Pycior’s string-heavy score. Pycior going is strong and loud, making the instruments literally scream as they grab onto the heart and give it a good squeeze"

"...This leads to a finale that is as haunting as it is humane, and makes for a film that's raw, challenging, and unforgettable" - Roger Ebert

The Garden Left Behind tells the story of how a man transitions into a woman. It talks about finding out what your true identity is. Many people share the same characteristics with the protagonist. Many are confused about who they really are and it is hard to be open about this confusion because the society is not accepting of those people who want to change who they are. It is unfortunate, but I am hoping that in the future, more and more people will be able to accept that they are not the ones who should dictate what a person's identity should be.
